Rosemount system

The application of the Rosemount System results in a good quality of roasted concentrates for subsequent processing and ensures the compliance of the stack gasses and waste waters with the new environmental regulations (SO2 content in stack gasses is kept below 120 mg/Nm ). The wastewater from the sulfiiric acid plant is processed in the acid waste water plant (commissioned in 1996) in connection with the acid drains from other plants.

The competitive physical/chemical system that is being installed at Rosemount, Minn., consists of primary treatment followed by coagulation, sand filtration, activated carbon adsorption, another filtration step, ion exchange, and oxidation. This can produce a highly purified water at less cost than a system involving primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment.30...

To analyze the SO2 adsorption capacity until saturation [140,141], our experimental system consists of IR and UV gas analyzers (Rosemount Binos 1001 SOj/ O2, Binos CO/CO2). A 1.2-cm-diameter differential reactor has been used, with 0.2 g of sample. The gas flow was 620 mL/min, with a concentration of2000 ppm SO2, S OjinNj. 

The extent of reaction ( is determined by mass balancing the open system in steady state. The concentrations of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are measured by non-dispersive infrared spectroscopy (Binos, Rosemount), oxygen is determined by use of a magnetic device (Magnos 3, Hartmann fz Braun).
