Rohypnol drug tests

In 2002, a company called DrinkSafe Technology announced they had invented a coaster that can be used to test whether a drink has been drugged. If Rohypnol, GHB, or ketamine has been added, the coaster will change color when a drop of the tampered drink is placed on it. 

Law enforcement officials have improved their ability to detect the drug due to more sophisticated tests. Rohypnol remains detectable in urine for up to 72 hours. 

The drug s manufacturer, Hoffmann-La Roche maintains a free, 24-hour phone line providing information on Rohypnol and offers free comprehensive testing for the drug to hospital emergency departments, law enforcement officials, and rape crisis centers. 

Like Rohypnol, GHB is a central nervous system (CNS) depressant, which, when tested on animals, induces a sleep-like state in doses ranging from 0.1 to 1.5 milligrams per kilogram.33 Although many neurotransmitter systems are affected by treatment with GHB, evidence supports the hypothesis that GHB itself acts as a neurotransmitter. This implies that GHB is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that is necessary for normal nervous system functions. Administered as a drug, GHB has been shown to temporarily inhibit the release of dopamine in the brain.34 This inhibition is followed by a marked increase in the release of both dopamine and naturally occurring opioids, such as endorphins.35... 

Called the "Drink Detective," it is a matchbox-sized drink testing kit that can detect three of the most common date rape drugs that sexual predators slip into drinks GHB, ketamine, and Rohypnol. The kit contains test pads for each of the three drugs, as well as pipettes for applying drops of a drink to the pads. For the first time, people going to bars, raves, or clubs could test their drinks for date rape drugs.
