Rock physics template

Some of my former students have followed the petrophysics way and helped me, for example, with experimental data—one of the rarest components in our science. Frank Bdmer has contributed valuable insight for electrical properties. Nina Gegenhuber made measurements of elastic and thermal properties and developed components of Rock Physics Templates. Edith Mliller-Huber contributed to carbonate properties and model calculations. [Pg.1]

Gegenhuber and Pupos (2015) use laboratory data for the design of a Rock Physics Template (Fig. 6.56). The separation between gas (air) and brine-saturated low porous carbonates can be seen clearly. A comparison with Fig. 6.55 shows the distinctly higher acoustic impedance for carbonate as a result of the elastic properties of the matrix minerals. [Pg.258]

Chi and Han (2009) conclude "... using the crossplots of elastic properties with the rock physics template, we can clearly delineate the lithology and fluid content. The prior information such as well log, core, and geological modelling can help construct the rock physics template and includes the effects of pressure, temperature, and fluid property . [Pg.258]
