The objective of this research was to examine the relevance of various supply chain risks and to provide a current picture of the implementation of supply chain risk management ideas in practice. Building on a thorough examination of the various supply chain risk taxonomies and risk management practices proposed in the pertinent literature as well as on interviews with practitioners, we developed a questioimaire and empirically investigated both aspects on a large-scale basis. [Pg.286]

To properly use failure rate data, the engineer or risk analyst must have an understanding of failure rates, their origin and limitations. This chapter discusses the types and source of failure rate data, the failure model used in computations, the confidence, tolerance and uncertainties in the development of failure rates and taxonomies which can store the data and influence their derivation. [Pg.7]

Measures used to parameterise, or to limit, these component elements may vary between different t es of hazard and risk, between different components of the overall environment, or between different economic and cultural systems but the underpinning logic of the approach remains a transparent and potent taxonomy. [Pg.24]

With increasingly networked, distributed computer systems the risk of deliberate malicious interactions, using software-based tools, became a serious threat. Many-fold related issues like data protection, privacy, integrity, authenticity, and denial of service attacks, viruses, worms etc. lead to a separate community to be established, which is nowadays in the main focus of the public as was safety some time ago (and still is—but only after catastrophic events). This community developed separate standards, methods, taxonomy and ways of thinking. [Pg.162]

In these sponge studies every care was taken to secure the identification of the material. The results obtained were unsuspected leading to additional concern to secure the correct taxonomy. Incidentally, the two investigations last mentioned were coauthored by P. R. Bergquist, one of the internationally leading sponge taxonomists and the material was collected in New Zealand waters, her domestic area. The risk of misidentification is thus minimal. [Pg.718]

In an accident investigation the strengths may he called reliabihty/resihence as observed , the weaknesses may be called accidents or incidents as observed , the opportunities to improve resihence may be called resihence engineering and the threats may be called threats/risks in the future . Strengths and weaknesses have been identified in the past, opportunities and threats may happen in the future. This taxonomy may be useful when discussing focus of the accident analysis, is the focus on what went wrong or looking at positive factors in the accident ... [Pg.47]

In the following chapters the risk consequence categories listed in Table 1 are described closer, using the taxonomy presented in Chapter 3.2. [Pg.433]

Consequently, we need to be systematically concerned with general methodology, which would define basic attributes and taxonomy of risk management and risk assessment with a unifying method. Its fundament is definition of a general model for risk management and derivation of specific models for individual areas of usage. [Pg.1114]

One of the fundamentals of safety engineering is the need not merely to achieve safety, but to demonstrate its achievement in advance [Redmill and Anderson 200S]. There are now a significant number of standards and taxonomies to follow in order to create a demonstration medium for indicating the level of achieved safety, the residual risks and how both are to be managed through the life of the system. [Pg.69]

The curve with minimum level of organizational effect (P = 0) has lowest risk, while curve with the maximum level of organizational effect (P = 1) has the highest risk. The extent of change in risk with change in organizational level is determined by the calibration term in Equation 1. This calibration term is calculated from the analysis of past accidents across selected five type of human factor taxonomy. [Pg.1004]
