Ring with sulfur-based nucleophiles

Ring-Opening meso-Oxabicyclic Alkenes with Sulfur-Based Nucleophiles 423... [Pg.423]

Oxygen nucleophiles usually attack a ring carbon atom rather than the sulfur atom of a thiirane, and those cases in which desulfurization is observed on treatment of a thiirane with oxygen bases probably involve the extrusion of sulfur by mechanisms other than a nucleophilic attack on sulfur, e.g. thermal. Desulfurization of thiirane intermediate (43)... [Pg.151]

Methods based on the pyridine to thieno[3,2-c]pyridine transformation are less well developed. Most of the above-described procedures are based on the nucleophilic displacement of the substituent at position 4 of the pyridine ring with a sulfur-containing fragment followed by cyclization of the resulting product. For example, the reaction of 4-chloropyridines 286 with methyl thioglycolate produced 287 and 288 in one step as a result of the replacement of the chlorine atom and Thorpe or Thorpe Dieckmann cyclization (1987JHC85). [Pg.164]

Nucleophiles may attack either the sulfur atom or a carbon atom of thietanes to give ring-opened products. Bases may effect an elimination with rupture of the ring. [Pg.466]
