Right not to be discriminated against

Workers have the right to expect safety and health on the job without fear of punishment. This is spelled out in Section 11(c) of the OSHAct. The law states that employers shall not punish or discriminate against workers for exercising rights such as  [Pg.265]

The Employment (Age) Discrimination Regulations 2006 came into force in October 2006 and state that it is unlawful to discriminate against a person because of their age. The default retirement age is set at 65, however an employer may set an earlier retirement date. There are, in practice, few circumstances in which the employer will be able to do this. The employee has a right to request that their intended retirement date be extendi. The employer needs to consider the request but if they refuse it, they do not have to provide a reason for their decision. [Pg.101]
