Rheological properties shear thinning

The process of flushing typically consists of the foUowing sequence phase transfer separation of aqueous phase vacuum dehydration of water trapped in the dispersed phase dispersion of the pigment in the oil phase by continued appHcation of shear thinning the heavy mass by addition of one or more vehicles to reduce the viscosity of dispersion and standardization of the finished dispersion to adjust the color and rheological properties to match the quaHty to the previously estabHshed standard. [Pg.511]

Blends of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer with metallocene-catalysed elastomeric ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer were investigated and were found to be immiscible in the melt and solid state but mechanically compatible. The morphology (SEM), thermal (DSC), rheological (viscosity), mechanical (including tensile, shear thinning and elastic behaviour) and optical properties of EVA-rich and ethylene-alpha-olefin copolymer-rich blends were studied and the results are discussed in terms of processibility in film applications. 24 refs. [Pg.28]

Perhaps the most important and striking features of high internal phase emulsions are their rheological properties. Their viscosities are high, relative to the bulk liquid phases, and they are characterised by a yield stress, which is the shear stress required to induce flow. At stress values below the yield stress, HIPEs behave as viscoelastic solids above the yield stress, they are shear-thinning liquids, i.e. the viscosity varies inversely with shear rate. In other words, HIPEs (and high gas-fraction foams) behave as non-Newtonian fluids. [Pg.173]
