Review of One-Dimensional Methods

The conditions for a satisfactory run include a series of physical factors in connection with the electrophoretic chamber, the paper, the buffer, and the electrical field. While each of these has its separate effect, the interaction among them must be considered, for it is the electrical current passing through a buffered paper strip that causes electrophoretic migration. [Pg.4]

The power supply, the electrodes, and the buffer vessels, as far as electrical conditions are concerned, will be described under the heading of electrical field (Section 1.1.4.). [Pg.4]

Relatively higher values are found along the edges of the strip due to evaporation from the central path toward the edges (Fig. 2). The additional effect of the electrical field on the distribution of salt will be considered later (see Section 1.1.3). [Pg.5]

Inside a sealed box there will be evaporation as long as the atmosphere is not saturated with vapor. After that no further loss by evaporation is possible. But any condensation of water on the lid or on the walls of [Pg.5]

Influence of evaporation on salt distribution according to the length and the width of the strip (no current applied). Apart from increasing toward the center of the strip, the salt concentration also increases toward the edges. Schematic representation of the two simultaneous evaporation flows explains the model. [Pg.6]
