Results of the Seattle Bismuth Experiment

A list of all bismuth PNC measurements carried out in Seattle is given in Table 1. The table includes the first three measurements, made without the systematic checks and controls developed later. These measurements are not included in computing the final result. The remaining six measurements, each containing between SO and 100 data sets and each taken under a broad range of conditions, are seen to have a common value of R to within the quoted uncertainties. These six measurements yield the resultant experimental value  [Pg.257]

In Table 2 we present recent results of atomic calculations for the bismuth 876-nm line based on the Weinberg-Salam theory. The earliest published central-field values of R were about twice the central field values shown in the first entry. The change is due to the decrease in the experimental value of sin 0w from 0.35 to below 0.23, and to improved calculations. The semiempirical value shown in the table utilizes empirical [Pg.257]
