Resistance inhibition

In order to inhibit corrosion, it is necessary to stop the flow of current. This can be achieved by suppressing either the cathodic or the anodic reaction, or by inserting a high resistance in the electrolytic path of the corrosion current. These three methods of suppression are called cathodic, anodic znA resistance inhibition respectively (Section 1.4). [Pg.591]

Inhibition of synthesis of the aromatic matrix by inhibitors of phenylalanine ammonia lyase causes the inhibition of deposition of aliphatic components and prevents development of diffusion resistance. Inhibition of synthesis of peroxidase, the enzyme involved in the deposition of the polymeric phenolic matrix, caused by iron deficiency, prevents deposition of aliphatic components of suberin. [Pg.17]

Inhibition of enzymatic inactivation Enzymatic inactivation of 3-lactam antibiotics is a major mechanism of antibiotic resistance. Inhibition of 3-lactamase by 3-lactamase inhibitor drugs (eg, sulbactam) results in synergism. [Pg.1111]

Archer and co-workers also prepared and evaluated the disulphides (72)-(75). Incubation of bovine striatal membranes with TAMO (72), iV-CPM-TAMO (73), MET-TAMO (74) and iV-CPM-MET-TAMO (75) resulted in wash-resistant inhibition of the binding of the // selective peptide DAMGO. TAMO had no effect on k or 5 binding while 7V-CPM-TAMO moderately inhibited k binding and weakly inhibited S binding. MET-TAMO and N-CPM-MET-TAMO inhibited n, k and S binding. Thus, TAMO was the most selective of the four ligands and 7V-CPM-TAMO appeared to be the next most selective [118,119]. TAMO exhibited a short antinociceptive effect in the mouse tail flick test [116]. [Pg.104]

Isothiocyanate derivatives of the K-selec-tive agonist ICI 199441 have also been described. Chang et al. prepared the m-isothio-cyanate derivative DIPPA (203) (639, 640), which exhibits wash-resistant inhibition of [ H]U69,593 binding and long-lasting k re-... [Pg.406]

Experiment 16.1 Hydromechanical analogue to reaction resistance Colored water is filled into one of the glass jars. (Their special form corresponds to the exponential horn in Sect. 6.7, i.e., it symbolizes the dependence of the chemical potential upon the amount of dissolved substance as in a potential diagram.) The initially closed stopcock is opened and the liquid distributes to both jars until equilibrium is established. The stopcock takes the role of reaction resistance inhibiting the reaction although it could proceed in principle. [Pg.403]

Additional protection may be supplied by resistance inhibition, which is also a part of the barrier mechanism. Retardation of the corrosion action is accomplished by inhibiting the charge transport between cathodic and anodic sites. The reaction rate may be reduced by an increase in the electrical resistance and/or the ionic resistance in the corrosion cycle. Applying an organic coating on a metal surface increases the ionic resistance. The electronic resistance may be increased by the formation of an oxide film on the metal. This is the case for aluminum substrates. [Pg.303]
