Residue dictionaries

The chemistry rules approach ended up being the basis for the original three-dimensional biomolecular structure file format, the PDB format from the Protein Data Bank at Brookhaven (Bernstein et al., 1977). These records, in general, lack complete bond information for biopolymers. The working assumption is that no residue dictionary is required for interpretation of data encoded by this approach, just a table of bond lengths and bond types for every conceivable pair of bonded atoms is required. [Pg.85]

Trade name for tech lauroyl peroxide manufd by the Lucidol Division of Wallace Tieraan, Inc, Buffalo, NY Alpha-Cellulose is that portion of cellulosic materialfpulp, paper, etc) which, after treatment with 17,5% NaOH(mercerized strength) at 20° and diln to 7.3% NaOH,can be separated by filtration. The residue of alpha-cellulose is a good index of the undegraded cellulose content of the material. The alkali treatment removes degraded(oxidized or hydrolyzed) cellulose and short chain material. Various numbering methods have been used to indicate substitution or other modification in or of the residues of a peptide. The method now recommended by lUPAC and introduced into the Dictionary of Natural Products (see Section 1.2.1) uses numerical locants of the type 3, where 3 is the locant of the substituent in the amino acid residue and 2 is the amino acid position in the ring or chain, numbered from the N-terminal end, which is standard for all peptides). A/ -methyloxytocin would indicate a methyl substituent on N-5 of the glutamine residue at position 4 of oxytocin. [Pg.93]
