Resid, processing problems

The problems of monomer recovery, reaction medium viscosity, and control of reaction heat are effectively dealt with by the process design of Montedison Fibre (53). This process produces polymer of exceptionally high density, so although the polymer is stiU swollen with monomer, the medium viscosity remains low because the amount of monomer absorbed in the porous areas of the polymer particles is greatly reduced. The process is carried out in a CSTR with a residence time, such that the product k jd x. Q is greater than or equal to 1. is the initiator decomposition rate constant. This condition controls the autocatalytic nature of the reaction because the catalyst and residence time combination assures that the catalyst is almost totally expended in the reactor. [Pg.280]

The continuous sintering is mainly a zone sintering process in which the electrolyte tube is passed rapidly through the hot zone at about 1700 °C. This hot zone is small (about 60 mm) in zone sintering, no encapsulation devices are employed. The sodium oxide vapor pressure in the furnace is apparently controlled by the tubes themselves. Due to the short residence time in the hot zone, the problem of soda loss on evaporation can be circumvented. A detailed description of / "-alumina sintering is given by Duncan et al. [22]. [Pg.580]

Thus, the problem on the growth of a block copolymer chain in the course of the interphase radical copolymerization may be formulated in terms of a stochastic process with two regular states corresponding to two types of terminal units (i.e. active centers) of a macroradical. The fact of independent formation of its blocks means in terms of a stochastic process the independence of times ta of the uninterrupted residence in every a-th stay of any realization of this process. Stochastic processes possessing such a property have been scrutinized in the Renewal Theory [75]. On the basis of the main ideas of this theory, the set of kinetic equations describing the interphase copolymerization have been derived [74],... [Pg.184]
