Research evaluation preliminary study

Characteristics of Complex Industrial Systems and Processes. WP6 - Task 6.1. Methods-algorithms for evaluating unknown parameters of system operation processes, reliability and safety models - a preliminary study. WP6 -TaskO.l.l 16.03.2009. Poland-Singapore Joint Research Project, 2007-2010. 

The dissertation consists of two major segments literature review and experiments. The result of preliminary study in the following section is based on the former. The outcome of my research, the principles for multimodal interactive system design, will be based on both. Then, such principles will be used as a tool to design an instance of multimodal interactive system and be evaluated through data collected from system testing. 

Two potent antagonists, naloxone (XVlIa) and cyclazocine (XVIIl) were administered to selected groups of narcotic addicts in an attempt to "cure" their addiction by blocking a pleasurable effect of narcotic self-administration. Moreover, we were able to demonstrate a significant therapeutic effect of the COX-2 inhibitor on depressive symptoms in a randomized double blind pilot add-on study using the selective COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib in MD (Muller et al., 2006). Although those preliminary data have to be interpreted cautiously and intense research has to be provided in order to evaluate further the therapeutic effects of COX-2 inhibitors in MD, those results are encouraging for further studies dealing with the inflammatory hypothesis of depression with regard to pathogenesis, course and therapy. 

For the last 4 years, in a joint research project with C. F. Code, we attempted to come closer to an evaluation of the nature of gastrone. The study included the distribution of activity on the electrophoretic partition of pooled acid and anacid human gastric juices, as well as in effluents from the gel filtration of these materials on Sephadex columns of various porosities. Preliminary findings have been recently published in abstract form (K31). 

If research is to be used for regulatory approval of a drug, the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines that have been adopted by Canada must be followed. Budgets must be evaluated to ensure no conflicts of interest exist. Placebo-controlled studies are not considered acceptable when effective standard therapies or interventions are available. Investigators must inform subjects as to why placebos are necessary when used, and, if any treatment is to be withdrawn and the associated impact. Although sponsors may obtain preliminary data for analysis, final analysis and interpretation should be by the researchers to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the work.
