We have also shown that these scaffolds generate an osmotic swelling pressure profile (Fig. 4) that mirrors that of a 25-year-old human and that they are conducive to repopulation with human ADSC [28, 113].

In classical studies, Till and McCulloch administered dissociated bone marrow cells in the tail vein of lethally irradiated mice and found that the grafted cells repopulated the hematopoietic system and allowed the animals to survive. More recent studies suggest that blood cells also travel to sites of injury, where they may give rise to non-blood-tissue progeny.

In a laser system, the wave is initiated by spontaneous emission from the excited state atoms in the active medium. The spontaneously emitted photons traveling parallel to the resonator axis are able to create new photons by stimulated emission. Above the threshold they induce a photon avalanche, which grows until the depletion of the population inversion compensates the repopulation due to pumping.
