Reorganizations number

Both Cope and Claisen rearrangements involve reorganization of an odd number of electron pairs (two tt bonds and one a bond), and both react by suprafacial pathways (Figure 30.13). [Pg.1194]

The stereochemistry of any pericyclic reaction can be predicted by counting the total number of electron pairs (bonds) involved in bond reorganization and then applying the mnemonic "The Electrons Circle Around. " That is, thermal (ground-slate) reactions involving an even number of electron pairs occur with either conrotatory or antarafacial stereochemistry. Exactly the opposite rules apply to photochemical (excited-state) reactions. [Pg.1198]

The Cluster Rules reorganized the subcategorization scheme to simplify the categories. Previously, mills were grouped by the types of products manufactured. The Cluster Rules reduced the number of subcategories by grouping mills by similar processes. [Pg.889]

The coordinate pertaining to solvent reorganization, z, is the same fictitious charge number as already considered in the Hush-Marcus model of outer-sphere electron transfer (Section 1.4.2), and so is the definition of 2q [equation (1.27)] and the difference between the Hush and Marcus estimation of this parameter. The coordinated describing the cleavage of the bond is the bond length, y, referred to its equilibrium value in the reactant, yRX. Db is the bond dissociation energy and the shape factor ft is defined as... [Pg.188]
