Relative sectoral market shares

Obviously, this means that most players are overestimating their market share or market potential. However, the figures do reflect the relative market shares among the different sectors, with banks and insurance companies dominating the MPF market. 

Owing to their relative simphcity and effectiveness, Quadrupole SIMS instruments found greatest commercial popularity throughout the 1970-1990s. Their market share has, however, dwindled as a result of the development in Time-of-Fhght-based SIMS instrumentation. That being said. Magnetic Sector-based SIMS instruments have remained the instrument of choice when sensitivity and detection limits are of utmost importance in the area of Dynamic SIMS. It should also be noted that there exists many niche areas where specific types of SIMS instrumentation excel. 

The battery sector is likely to account for a smaller share of overall refined lead consumption in the Eastern Bloc countries as a whole, than in the West. It is probably a more important end-use market in those countries (the former USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia) which have relatively well-developed vehicle production facilities. Vehicle production, having declined sharply in the last few years, is now estimated at a little over 2.5 million units, about 5 per cent or so of total world output. The former USSR continues to account for about two-thirds of this. 

The second key influence has been the growing share of the secondary sector in refined lead production. Initially, this involved both an increasing number of new entrants, of a lower average size than existing firms, and the growth of several large secondary producers. The traditional market leaders, conversely, have tended to concentrate predominantly on the primary sector, which has been in relative decline.
