5 Relation between structure function and scattered intensity 

The quantities measured during a scattering experiment are the intensities I(q) of the scattered radiation, for various transfer vectors q (see Chapter 6). From these quantities, we can deduce the structure function of the solutes. 

Let us express / (q) in terms of the structure functions previously defined. Let V be the irradiated volume of the sample. From relations (6.5.6) and (7.2.2), we get 

On the other hand, it is convenient to express the amounts of monomers in terms of mass concentrations 

With the help ofsuch a formula, the structure functions can be deduced from the measured intensities. Let now examine the most usual cases.
