Single-stage regulator

The checkers used a Matheson model B15F-679 single-stage pressure regulator, a model 63-5512 pressure gauge, and a model 7825 flowmeter. Information on equipment designed to handle fluorine can be found in the bulletin Tech-Brief TB-115, published by Matheson Gas Products. 

Moisture is to be removed, in a drier, from compacted material with a microcrystalline structure. The drier, fitted with a heating jacket and a regulator to maintain a constant temperature, is charged with 100 kg product containing 30% water. The final product must have a residual moisture of 0.1% or less. Because of the nature of the product, its temperature should not exceed 50 °C and, to achieve the required dryness, a pressure of 2 mbar is required. It is proposed to carry out the process with a single-stage oil-sealed rotary pump (Seff = 100 m3 hr1, water vapour tolerance = 50 mbar at 40 °C and pult (with gas ballast) = 1 mbar).

A slow decrease in the flow rate into the DSC will be observed if cylinders are used that are fitted with single-stage regulators, as the output pressure will decrease as the cylinder slowly empties. This effect may be minimized by the use of two-stage cylinder regulators or, ideally, the use of calibrated mass flow controllers, which will remove this variable from the experiment altogether. 

There are two basic methods for controlling vacuum pumps suction throttling and using a load gas. Mechanical pumps may also use variable speed drive single stage jets may also use a regulating spindle. 

The VLE data were obtained by a single stage gas-liquid equilibrium still. The apparatus was shown in Figure 1. The system pressure was regulated by a voltage regulator, and the temperature was measured by a quartz thermometer. The measured pressure in the still was (101.3 zb 0.1) kPa, and the uncertainty of temperature is estimated to be 0.01 K.

Gas generators develop gas pressures much lower than the pressures dehvered from cylinders. A single stage regulator is suitable for regulating gas flows from these devices.

The operation of a single-stage regulator is characterized by a variation in delivery pressure as the cylinder pressure drops, and as the flow rate is increased, it is also subject to a greater drop in delivery pressure than the two-stage design. 

The two-stage regulator produces a more even delivery pressure over a wide range of supply pressures than does the single-stage device.
