For the preparation of unbuilt, clear-type, HDL formulations, the order of addition is of importance to minimize viscosity resistance to mixing and to avoid possible gel formation. The introduction of GCP has accelerated the need for quality control and quality assurance, particularly in the field of clinical research. Quality control is carried out by the staff who are responsible for the particular activity, working to SOPs that cover all the tasks under scrutiny. SOPs not only need to be written but must also be updated regularly. Quality assurance is the process which seeks to confirm that SOPs have been observed this is accomplished by the process of auditing. Internal audit departments should be under a separate management from the medical department. Regular audits can not only assure external bodies, such as regulatory authorities, that proper procedures have been followed, but also serve to deter those rare attempts at fraud on the part of clinical investigators, which occasionally become evident. ...

It is a blind sample in that we do not know the history, i.e., we do not know if it is a regular quality assurance sample, whether it is one for which the expiration date has passed, or whether it is one for which they have received a customer complaint. Thus, we cannot make any judgment about the sample — only report the results. It is labeled as a 1000 ppm copper solution. 

This system of commercial QC trust should lead to the customer expending more effort in aiding/improving the supplier s quality system (through regular quality audits), and less on routine conformance testing. The supplier has to be aware that a substandard delivery, unknowingly accepted for use, can have serious implications for the customer s production efficiency, but more critical consequences on patient efficacy.

Despite reliable production methods and regular quality control, defects of manufacture in grinding media cannot be ruled out.
