Reductions catalytic hydrogenation

SABATIER-SENDERENS REDUCTION. Catalytic hydrogenation of organic compounds in the vapor phase by passage over hot, finely divided nickel (the oldest of all hydrogenation methods).

This encompasses all reduction methods other than hydrogenation and includes hydride equivalents and one-electron reductions. Catalytic hydrogen transfer is included under hydrogenation (see Section 3.6.3). 

Reduction. Catalytic hydrogenation of 3) -acetoxy-5-enes may give as much as 10% hydrogenolysis of the acetoxy-group. Zinc-copper couple in refluxing... 

Chemical Properties. Reduction. Catalytic hydrogenation over cobalt in the presence of ammonia gives 2-methylpentamethylene-l,5-diamine along with minor amounts of 3-pipecoline (8). Under special conditions of limiting hydrogenation, the major product is 2-methyl-5-aminovaleronitrile (9). 

There are three main processes for direct replacement of carbonyl-oxygen by hydrogen Clemmensen reduction, catalytic hydrogenation, and reduction by metal hydrides. 

The dihydropyrene does not react with maleic anhydride. It is hydrogenated at the 2,7-positions in a Birch reduction catalytic hydrogenation over palladium/charcoal proceeds rapidly at room temperature and pressure to give a cyclophane derivative [225] ...
