The Smith predictor is a model-based control strategy that involves a more complicated block diagram than that for a conventional feedback controller, although a PID controller is still central to the control strategy (see Fig. 8-37). Recommendations Plant measurements should be adjusted to close the constraints of the process. This adjustment shoiild be done on a component or subcomponent (e.g., atomic) basis. The adjustments should be done recognizing (at a minimum) the uncertainty in the measurements. While sophisticated routines have been developed for reconciliation, the vagaries of plant measurements may make them unsuitable in most applications. The routines are no substitute for accurate, precise measurements. They cannot compensate for the uncertainties and hmited information typically found in plant data. 

Adding shunt capacitors would also reduce Zq but would raise the electrical line length hence it is not considered. Moreover, on EHVs, the charging shunt capacitances, Cq, as such require compensation during light loads or load rejections to limit the voltage rise (regulation) at the far end or the midpoint. Hence no additional shunt compensation is recommended. 

The alignment procedure should be repeated at various intervals to identify installation errors and compensate for equipment operation. This is the way to assure long equipment life. It is recommended to go through the alignment procedure and make corrections in the following stages ... 

In summary, the back-pressure for relief valves should be limited to the following values unless the valve is compensated. We do not recommend using a relief valve with higher back-pressure than shown below without consulting a person knowledgeable in relief valve sizing and relief system design.

In the DTA measurement, an exothermic reaction is plotted as a positive thermal event, while an endothermic reaction is usually displayed as a negative event. Unfortunately, the use of power-compensation DSC results in endothermic reactions being displayed as positive events, a situation which is counter to IUPAC recommendations [38]. When the heat-flux method is used to detect the thermal phenomena, the signs of the DSC events concur with those obtained using DTA, and also agree with the IUPAC recommendations. 

Polystyrene (PS), a highly rigid and surface-hardened thermoplastic, is glass clear and almost colorless. Its typical slight yellow tinge is easy to compensate for by adding transparent blue colorants to adjust the color. Polystyrene softens between 80 and 100°C. It is processed between about 170 and 280°C, up to a maximum of 300°C, without color change, by any of the methods which are recommended for thermoplastics. The list of products includes extrusion made sheets, profiles, and films, which are often foamed. 

When the first Moss Bill was filed, its provisions were studied by the American Chemical Society Committee on Economic Status and the Committee on Patent Matters and Related Legislation. One concern was whether an official ACS position on the bill should be presented to the governing congressional committee. The ACS bodies also felt that consideration should be given to the active involvement of ACS itself in developing a program for encouraging compensation to employed inventors. It soon became apparent to the members of the two ACS Committees that the issue was more complex than appeared, and a joint subcommittee was appointed to study the entire question in depth. This subcommittee, under my chairmanship, has been active since 1972, and it made a report to its parent committees in the fall of 1974 with recommendations for future action.
