Equation 4 estabHshes the relationship between the growth rate, a, and local film parameters. This model provides a reasonable foundation for further analysis of droplet formation. [Pg.330]

Combined electron ionization mass spectroscopy (EIMS) and matrix isolation FTIR spectroscopic data on vacuum pyrolysis of 1,1-dimethyl-l-germa-3-thietane assisted by theoretical calculations provide a reasonable foundation for mechanistic interpretation of its thermal decomposition (see Section 2.21.6.1, Equation 7) <1998JA5005>. [Pg.913]

Fortunately, during the last twenty years or so, two developments have taken place which enable one to define complicated catalyst systems in a fairly sophisticated manner. First, the theory of the solid state has advanced to the point where, despite its well-known limitations and ambiguities, it can serve as a reasonable foundation for the construction of a functional model of a catalyst system. Second, there has been the development of several research techniques, principally of a spectroscopic nature, which permit a more detailed study of catalysts than has hitherto been possible. The present chapter consists essentially of an illustration of the application of these two developments to the elucidation of the physical-chemical structure of a fairly complicated catalyst of practical importance, namely chromia-alumina. While it cannot be claimed that a complete description of the chromia-alumina catalyst system has been realized, it is fair to say that, by the application of a variety of modern experimental techniques to this single catalyst, a molecular picture has emerged which is more detailed than had been previously available. This alone encourages cautious optimism concerning the future. [Pg.225]

The preceding equations provided a reasonable foundation for predicting DE behavior. Indeed the assumption that DEs behave electronically as variable parallel plate capacitors still holds however, the assumptions of small strains and linear elasticity limit the accuracy of this simple model. More advanced non-linear models have since been developed employing hyperelasticity models such as the Ogden model [144—147], Yeoh model [147, 148], Mooney-Rivlin model [145-146, 149, 150] and others (Fig. 1.11) [147, 151, 152]. Models taking into account the time-dependent viscoelastic nature of the elastomer films [148, 150, 151], the leakage current through the film [151], as well as mechanical hysteresis [153] have also been developed. [Pg.19]

In cases of dishonesty that arose in British Home Stores Ltd. v. Burcbell for the dismissal to be fair, the employer must have carried out sufficient investigation to satisfy himself that his suspicion of the employee had reasonable foundation. [Pg.98]

To this reasoning, it has been objected, that the President by the influence of the power of nomination may secure the compliance of the Senate to his views. The supposition of universal venality in human nature is little less an error in political reasoning than the supposition of universal rectitude. The institution of delegated power implies that there is a portion of virtue and honor among mankind, which may be a reasonable foundation of confidence. And experience justifies the theory It has been... [Pg.371]
