Enthalpies and free energies (in kcal/mol) for the reactions V2 N2F4 +V2 O2 F2 +NO, AHl98 = 27.6, AGl98 = 11.36, and N2F4 + 02= F2 + 2FN0, AH 98 = -29.6, AG 98 = -42.9, predict these equilibria to be totally on the reactant and product side, respectively [12]. [Pg.347]

N2F4 + O3. At liquid-N2 temperatures a red color appeared at the interface of O3 and N2F4 layers [10]. Upon warming, an explosive reaction occurred [7]. Products mentioned in screening investigations were NF3, FNO, O2 [1, p. 64], and NO2 [7]. [Pg.347]

NF2-I-O2. Freeman [15] mentions in his review on the chemical behavior of the NF2 radical that there is no reaction with O2. However, FNO formation is reported at 400°C (at that temperature, initial N2F4 is totally dissociated) [7]. [Pg.348]

NF2-I-O3. When NF2 was quenched on a thin layer of O3, six F-N-O-containing products FNO, FNO2, FONO2, F3NO, ONNF2, and O2NNF2 were detected by mass spectrometry (caution, the reaction can be explosive) [16]. [Pg.348]

Methyl benzoate, anisole, and diphenyl ether each give sandwich compounds with chromium vapor, although in rather low yield (32, 55, 110). Chromium appears to attack alkyl ethers and this deoxygenation probably competes with complexation with the aromatic oxygen compounds. No simple product has been isolated from chromium atoms and aniline, but bis(7V,7V-dimethylaniline)chromium has been prepared (32). The behavior of molybdenum and tungsten vapors closely resembles that of chromium in reactions with oxygen- and nitrogen-substituted arenes (113). [Pg.75]

Lithium and magnesium exhibit a diagonal relationship in some chemical properties. How does lithium resemble magnesium in its reaction with oxygen and nitrogen Consult a handbook of chemistry and compare the solubilities of carbonates, fluorides, and phosphates of these metals. [Pg.829]

The reactions considered are decomposition and isomerization (tins 1), and reactions with oxygen and nitrogen dioxide (k in cm3/molecule s). b Numbers in parentheses indicate powers of 10. [Pg.257]

Aldehydes and ketones undergo nucleophilic addition-elimination reactions with oxygen and nitrogen nucleophiles. [Pg.738]

Nucleophilic Ring-opening Reactions of Oxirans.—Reactions with Oxygen and Nitrogen Nucleophiles. A series of papers have appeared that deal with the reactions of lower aliphatic alcohols (R OH) with (120 = Me) to yield (121 ... [Pg.18]

The reactions that have been described above have indicated that sulphones interact poorly with electrophiles. However, in 1970, Whiting and coworkers announced the synthesis of aryloxysulphoxonium salts , by the reaction of sulphones with the potent electrophile produced in the thermolysis of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates or hexaflu-orophosphates. Fluorobenzenes are by-products of the reaction. In a subsequent paper , Whiting described the reactions of the aryloxysulphoxonium salts, 5, with oxygen and nitrogen nucleophiles. The fundamentals of these are outlined in equations (34) (oxygen nucleophile) and (35) (nitrogen nucleophile). [Pg.941]

Corresponding to these three problems our paper is divided into three parts. In the first (Sections 3-6) is set forth the experimental material on the amount of nitric oxide formed in explosions of mixtures of various combustibles with oxygen and nitrogen. It is shown that heating the mixture is equivalent to adding a corresponding amount of combustible. Thermodynamic computations show that in all cases the observed amount of nitric oxide is less than the equilibrium value at the maximum temperature of the gas. Direct experiments on the combustion of a gas in a stream have proved that the nitric oxide is not formed during but only after combustion. Thus, in Part I the thermal nature of the reaction is proved. [Pg.365]

Kinetics of Oxygen and Nitrogen Atom Reactions. The products of the photolysis of N20 are mainly nitrogen, oxygen, and nitric oxide.76 76 It is, therefore, necessary to consider reactions of atoms with N20 and with these products. The known rates of reaction of oxygen and nitrogen atoms with these molecules are listed in Table X. [Pg.189]

Since the reactions of oxygen- and nitrogen-containing molecules with HFA are very similar, and several molecules contain both atoms which could serve as active centers, they are treated under one heading. Early work has been reviewed by Krespan and Middleton 168) and Gambaryan et al. (111). [Pg.262]

The carbide is difficult to keep pure because of its rapid reaction with oxygen or nitrogen in any form above RT and the rapid reaction with HjO or its vapor at all Ts. The CjHj resulting from this reaction may cause an explosion hazard. [Pg.421]
