This reaction has potential for useful application in organic synthesis. Oxidation of alkylidynetricobalt nonacarbonyl complexes with halogens was the key reaction that led Kriierke and Hubei to the correct assignment of their structure (3a)  [Pg.136]

The action of iodine also causes nearly quantitative release of carbon monoxide from such complexes, but the organic triiodides presumably produced were not isolated (7). [Pg.136]
