QUEST program

To illusti ate existing limitations, a number of searches were carried out using the current 2-D similarity system. A 3000 structure subset of the January 1990 Version of the CSD was created for these searches to help the analysis of the performance. The subset was generated using the CSD System QUEST program to search for entries from the following chemical classes which represent a wide variety of shapes and sizes ... 

Note the physical size differences for the cross-sectional area Ac and the liquid and gas feed volumes L and V in this example when compared to the ones of Figure 6.28. Our original quest to achieve Xe = 3 as stipulated in the above call turns out to be unreasonable. The program recognizes this and gives us the height of the tower needed for achieving the maximally possible Xe = 1.93056 instead on the title line. 

Quested et al. [16] have conducted an extensive experimental program on the stress-strain behavior of the elastomer solithane while subjected to an ambient at high pressure. Some of their experimental results are reproduced in Fig. 13. (Note that the reported stress is the deviatoric, not the total, stress as observed from the fact that the reported stress is zero for X = 1 for the various imposed ambient pressures). For the classic ideal affine network model (all stress caused by ideal Nc Gaussian chains in a volume v with no nonbonded interactions)... 

At the first stage, a file (1) containing 11139 entries (found in 1403 crystal structures) was created using programs QUEST and GSTAT (version 3.8, 1991)5 under the condition that...

All of the calculations were done with GAMESS (Generalized Atomic and Molecular Electronic Structure Systems) except for the TiCU calculations with f-type polarization functions which were done with QUEST (QUantum Electronic STructure). These programs were run on a CRAY X-MP at CRAY Research in Mendota Heights, an FPS-264 at the Cornell National Supercomputer Facility, an IBM 3090/200 at Texas A M University, and the Department of Chemistry s VAX 11/780 andFPS-164. 

The quest adventure is an all-or-nothing proposition. The program can give you a score to indicate how close you ve come to success, but you probably won t be satisfied until you solve it. The treasure hunt offers more satisfaction to the beginning adventurer since, if even a few treasures are found, there s a sense of accomplishment. If a quest is like climbing a mountain, a treasure hunt can be compared with hiking across a series of low hills. Each one has its own kind of satisfaction.
