Quality of the potential fill material

The desired quality of potential fill material is dictated by its future behaviom after dredging, transport and deposition in the reclamation area. This implies that already during the design stage, samples retrieved from the borrow area must be tested. Based on these test results an assessment is made regarding the properties of a fill mass constructed with this material. This process may consequently also identify the need for ground improvement. [Pg.103]

The quality of the fill material mainly depends on the stiffness and strength of the mass after deposition. These mass properties are affected by various material properties like mineralogy, grain shape, angularity, and particle size distribution. For a more detailed overview of mass properties, related testing and testing requirements reference is made to sections 8.3, and 8.5. [Pg.103]

Generally, loose, medium grained, quartz sand is considered to be the most suitable fill material for reclamation purposes, but depending on project-specific conditions, other materials may sometimes be preferred instead. For instance, fine [Pg.103]
