Quality of decisions

The ironic proverbial saying that a month in the lab can save you an hour in the library is proving itself repeatedly and at a huge cost to both academic and commercial institutions alike. Missed information in the literature costs time, money, and quality. Both the quality of decisions made and the quality of subsequent research output is compromised when the available information is not realized. In monetary terms, incorrect decisions along the drug pipeline lifecycle in the pharmaceutical area can cost millions to billions of dollars (Adams and Brantner 2006 Banik and Westgren 2004 DiMasi 2002 DiMasi et al. 2003 Gaughan 2006 Leavitt 2003 Myers and Baker 2001). 

The quality of decisions, product, and task is improved if group members offer different perspectives, disagree, and seem to introduce conflict into the process. The trick is to manage the apparent conflict well. 

Measurements, and concepts with which they are associated, can contribute to a shift from experience-based knowledge acquisition to rule-based, engineering-like methods. This requires (1) a widely accepted conceptual framework (i.e., known to assistive device manufacturers, rehabilitation engineers, and other professionals within the rehabilitation community), (2) a more complete set of measurement tools that are at least standardized with regard to the definition of the quantity measured, (3) special analysis and assessment software (that removes the resistance to the application of more rigorous methods by enhancing the quality of decisions as well as the speed with which they can be reached), and (4) properly trained practitioners. Each is a necessary but not sufficient component. Thus balanced progress is required in each of these areas. 

Practice has proved that only continue to improve the quality of decision-making, management and safety culture of the first-line employees, in order to enhance the overall safety quality. The key to improving the quality of employee safety is an update of the concept. Encourage people to establish a correct concept of security, the most basic, and the most effective means of various forms of publicity and education and training. 

The research is focused on one branch and the present stage comprises of identification and verification of rules for capacity and availability definition. Quality of decisions is to assessed with Delphi methodology during the next stage of the research, after carrying simulation experiments. 

The decisions made within the area are complex and based on numerous determinants, what is more they generate high risk, as their consequences are investments and changes in process organization. Hence quality of decisions is crucial, what makes AI support specially important and useful.
