Pyrophoric solid, organic

Pyrophoric Liquid/Solid, Organic/Inorganic. A substance that may ignite in air at or below room temperature in the absence of added heat, shock or friction. ICAO A2... [Pg.228]

The purple crystals are freely soluble in all common organic solvents except aliphatic hydrocarbons, in which they are only sparingly soluble. Solutions of the compound are highly sensitive to oxidation, and rigorous exclusion of air is necessary. The appearance of yellow material, insoluble in hydrocarbons, indicates the onset of oxidation. The purple solid is pyrophoric in air but is stable indefinitely when stored under an inert atmosphere at room temperature. [Pg.93]

Rotary multitray dryer pulverized coal, pectin, penicillin, zinc sulfide, waste slude, pyrophoric zinc powder, zinc oxide pellets, calcium carbonate, boric acid, fragile cereal products, calcium chloride flakes, caffein, Inorganic fluorides, crystals melting near 100°F, prilled pitch, electronic grade phosphors, and solvent-wet organic solids... [Pg.245]

Cleaning Up Spread the zinc out on a watch glass for about 20 min before wetting it and placing it in the nonhazardous solid waste container. Sometimes zinc dust from a reaction like this is pyrophoric (spontaneously flammable in air) because it is so finely divided and has such a large, clean surface area able to react with air. The aqueous filtrate should be neutralized with sodium carbonate, zinc salts removed by vacuum filtration, and the filtrate diluted with water and flushed down the drain. The zinc salts are placed in the nonhazardous solid waste container. The filtrate from the fractional crystallization should all be placed in the organic solvents container. Allow the solvent to evaporate from the sodium sulfate in the hood and then place it in the nonhazardous solid waste container. [Pg.481]

This section contains a number of regulations aimed at specifically identified substances (e.g., in Subpart D, fiammable, combustible, and pyrophoric liquids in Subpart E, flammable solids, oxidizers, and organic peroxides) and must be consulted by any shipper subject to EPA s pretransport regulation. [Pg.322]

Physical hazard A chemical that is classified as posing one of the following hazardous effects explosive flammable (gases, aerosols, liquids, or solids) oxidizer (liquid, solid, or gas) self-reactive pyrophoric (liquid or solid) self-heating organic peroxide corrosive to metal gas under pressure or in contact with water emits flammable gas. [Pg.98]
