The fact that the 3,P-NMR signal of 183a can only be observed in pyridine-containing solution provides food for thought124). Viewed in conjugation with the idea that alkyl metaphosphates could form adducts such as 173 and 174 U9,120) as discussed above, formulation as a zwitterionic pyridine/metaphosphate adduct (188) seems reasonable. Similar adducts have also been found in the reaction of TPS with dinucleotides and trinucleoside diphosphate 126). In any case, the reactions of 183 or 188 are in full accord with the expected properties of a monomeric metaphosphate and its reactivity towards alcohols is far greater than that of all other reactive phosphorylation intermediates which can arise on reaction of TPS with oligonucleotides 126). [Pg.116]

While the majority of macrocycles formed by this type of Schiffbase condensation reaction are derived from pyridine containing fragments, considerable attention has also been devoted to the use of other heterocycles, including five membered ones, as the primary macrocyclic precursors. Although these latter ligands are for the most part not completely conjugated, they form an important group of expanded porphyrin-type macrocycles. It is for this reason that they are included in the present review,... [Pg.191]

A mixed cyclothiophene including phenylene units was synthesized by Tobe et al. [423], Macrocycle 4.55 (Chart 1.56) was made, which includes four alternating 2,5-thienylene and 1,3-phenylene units and is similar in shape to cyclo [8]thiophene 4.31. The meto-branched phenylene units helped to form the macrocycle and reduced strain energy, but interrupted the overall conjugation. The synthesis of a corresponding pyridine-containing macrocycle 4.56 was attempted, but the ring-closure reactions of penta- and heptacyclic precursors failed [424]. [Pg.93]

Interesting structures can be formed by combinations of ring and side-chain substituents in special relative orientations. As indicated above, structures (28) contain the elements of azomethine or carbonyl ylides, which are 1,3-dipoles. Charge-separated species formed by attachment of an anionic group to an azonia-nitrogen also are 1,3-dipoles pyridine 1-oxide (32) is perhaps the simplest example of these the ylide (33) is another. More complex combinations lead to 1,4-dipoles , for instance the pyrimidine derivative (34), and the cross-conjugated ylide (35). Compounds of this type have been reviewed by Ramsden (80AHCl26)l). [Pg.4]

This section deals mainly with nitrogen-containing, eight-membered heterocycles that are able to form a fully conjugated n-electron system, including both 8 n ( pyrrole type ) and iOn ( pyridine type ) systems, i.e. the free lone pair electrons of the heteroatom incorporated, or not incorporated, in conjugation. [Pg.509]

In order to construct the thiepin conjugation, the seven-membered cyclic ketones containing sulfur could be converted to either their enol ethers or enol acetates. The resulting thiepins should have a number of substituents. The first stable 3,5-diacetoxy-4-phenylbenzo[6]thiepin (15) has been obtained by Hofmann et al. from the diketone (14) by acetylation with acetic anhydride in pyridine in good yield 13). By this methodo-... [Pg.41]
