Budesonide. Budesonide (Pulmicort Turbuhaler, Rhi-nocort) is extensively metabolized in the liver, with 85 to 95% of the orally ab.sorbed drug metabolized by the first-pass effect. The major metabolites are 6/3-hydroxybudeson-idc and l6a-hydroxyprednisolone, both with less than 1% of the activity of the parent compound. Metabolism involves the CYP 3A4 enzyme, so eoadministration of budesonide with a known CYP 3A4 inhibitor should be monitored carefully. [Pg.814]
