Budesonide. Budesonide (Pulmicort Turbuhaler, Rhi-nocort) is extensively metabolized in the liver, with 85 to 95% of the orally ab.sorbed drug metabolized by the first-pass effect. The major metabolites are 6/3-hydroxybudeson-idc and l6a-hydroxyprednisolone, both with less than 1% of the activity of the parent compound. Metabolism involves the CYP 3A4 enzyme, so eoadministration of budesonide with a known CYP 3A4 inhibitor should be monitored carefully.

The other way to solve the problan with the small particles and the Van der Waals and electrostatic forces is to tumble the 2- to 4-pm particles to form larger spheres.
