Pulley belts

Pulley belts are a part of portable air compressors as well as drive motors for gates and roll-up doors.

This test is intended to determine the temperature rise in different parts of the motor windings while running at rated conditions and the permissible temperature rise limits are specified in Table 11.1. While preparing for the temperature rise test the motor should be shielded from currents of air coming from adjacent pulleys, belts and other components to avoid inaccurate results. Sufficient floor space should be left between the machines...

Power transmission apparatus functions as the part of the mechanical system that transmits energy to the part of the machine performing the work. These components include flywheels, pulleys, belts, connecting rods, couplings, cams, spindles, chains, cranks, and gears.

Cone-pulley belts. (I) The cone belt and pulley shall be equipped with a belt shifter so constructed as to adequately guard the nip point of the belt and pulley. If the frame of the belt shifter does not adequately guard the nip point of the belt and pulley, the nip point shall be further protected by means of a vertical guard placed in front of the pulley and extending at least to the top of the largest step of the cone. 

Compounder A system of pulleys, belts, shafts, chains, and gears that transmit power from the prime movers to the drilling rig. 

Mechanical Systems. Pulleys, belts, bearings, dampers, heating and cooling coils, and other mechanical systems must be checked periodically. These are included in Table 5.1 consequently, there is no reason that these should be the source of an lAQ problem if the staff is following the table schedules. 

Power Transmission All mechanical components, including gears, camshafts, pulleys, belts, and rods that transmit energy and motion from the source of power to the point of operation.

Pulley belts on roll-up doors as seen in Figure 6-2 can create serious pinch points. 

Figure 6-3 illustrates a small pulley belt guarded with wire mesh. 

The guarding on the portable compressor in Figure 6-4 is excellent. A serious pinch point always exists on drive belts. In some cases, the pulley belts may be mounted eight or more feet from the floor and be considered safe because of distance. But it must be remembered that if maintenance is needed on the motor, someone must gain access to the motor and at...
