Pteroylheptaglutamic Acid. Pteroylheptaglutamic acid was isolated from yeast by Pfiffner et al. (462) under the name of conjugated vitamin Be. These workers described the preparation of this peptide from an autolyzed extract of brewers yeast. The technique is essentially the same as that utilized for the preparation of vitamin B, from yeast (459). The product obtained was crystallized from a 6% solution of sodium chloride as birefringent yellow spherulites. By repeated crystallizations, it takes the form of microscopic needles in rosettes. The substance gives a crystalline methyl ester (m.p. 212-215° C. dec.). [Pg.34]
