Psychotropic agents haloperidol

Phenothiazines and other psychotropic agents (e.g. prochlorperazine and haloperidol) are contraindicated because they cause extrapyramidal symptoms despite being potentially efficacious. [Pg.426]

Verapamil Versus Other Psychotropics. Garza-Trevino et al. (258) conducted a 4-week, randomized, double-blind study comparing verapamil with lithium for acute mania and found no clinical or statistically significant differences between the two treatments. These results are difficult to interpret, however, because data about the amount and timing of rescue medication (i.e., haloperidol, lorazepam) were not presented. Further, more patients on verapamil required these agents. [Pg.207]

Li often is used in conjunction with antipsychotic, sedative, antidepressant, and anticonvulsant drugs. Case reports suggesting a risk of increased CNS toxicity when Li is combined with haloperidol are at variance with many years of experience with this combination. Antipsychotic drugs may prevent nausea, which can be an early sign of Li toxicity. There is no absolute contraindication to the concurrent use of LT and psychotropic drugs. Finally, anticholinergic and other agents that alter GI motility also may alter LT concentrations in blood over time. [Pg.317]

Psychopharmacological Agents, Volume II was published. It includes important chapters on phenothlazines, butyrophenones and the biochemical basis of mental disease An entire issue of the International Journal of Neuropsychiatry was devoted to publication of a comprehensive symposium on haloperidol A compilation of data, primarily structural, on 690 psychotropic drugs and related compounds appeared Haloperidol and thiothixene have been reviewed with regard to clinical potential. [Pg.6]
