Pseudomonas acidophila

A further modification is a single (3-lactam ring as found in the mon-obactams. Characteristically, there is a sulfonate residue (derived from sulfate) on the nitrogen atom. An example is sulfazecin 8 from Pseudomonas acidophila and P. mesoacidophila. This material also contains a dipeptide unit of D-glutamate and D-alanine (Scheme 2). Pharmaceutical chemists have synthesized many variations on the (3-lactam structure and have devised semisynthetic processes. The resulting materials are not natural products and are beyond the scope of this article. [Pg.676]

Screening bacteria such as Pseudomonas acidophila and Chromobacterium uiolacium for production of j3-lactam antibiotics resulted in the discovery of naturally occurring monobactams, which had moderate antimicrobial activity (133-135). Side-chain varia-... [Pg.873]

Microorganisms. For example, bacitracin and polymyxin are obtained from some Bacillus species streptomycin, tetracyclines, etc. from Streptomyces species gentamicin from Mi-cromonospora purpurea griseofulvin and some penicillins and cephalosporins from certain genera (Penicillium, Acremonium) of the family Aspergillaceae and monobactams from Pseudomonas acidophila and Gluconobacter species. Most antibiotics in current use have been produced from Streptomyces spp. [Pg.153]

C16H29N3O14S2 551.549 Aminoglycoside antibiotic. Isol. from Pseudomonas acidophila and Pseudomonas mesoacidophila. Induces formn. of bulges in bacterial cell walls by cooperation with P-lactam antibiotics. Sol. H2O fairly sol. MeOH, DMSO poorly sol. EtOAc, phenol, hexane. Major component of Bulgecin complex.
