Prospects for Future Studies on Pt Antitumor Compounds

Despite many intensive efforts to elucidate the detailed working mechanism of cis-Pt, as yet there is no conclusive proposal. It has been shown that both the cis and the transisomer can bind to DNA in vivo. 

It could be a damage-repair protein, which would not work so well in (certain) tumor cells. 

It could be a tumor-regulating protein, i.e., specific for tumor cells, and Pt-binding could perhaps deregulate the protein. 

It could be a protein that would prevent Pt-damage repair by (other) proteins.
