Properties of 1-Nitrobutane

1-Nitrobutane is a colorless liquid. Its relative density is 0.971 with melting point of -81.0 °C, boiling point of 152-153 °C and refractive index of 1.430320. It can be soluble in most organic solvents, such as ethanol, ether and others. [Pg.162]

The explosion of 1-nitrobutane is very weak and it can not be used alone as the liquid explosive. But it be the energetic component in a liquid explosive mixture, the liquid propellant fuel, and also a gasoline additive. In the chemical industry, it is mainly used as intermediate and solvent of organic synthesis. [Pg.163]

Except that nitroalkanes stimulate the mucosa, they also damage the central nervous system. Animal experiments indicate that it maybe damage the liver too. [Pg.163]

1-Nitrobutane should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse, which is far away from lire, heat. The container should be sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, reducing agents, acids and food chemicals, and must avoid the mixing storage. [Pg.163]
