To prove this hypothesis a suitable substrate, l-diazo-3-methyl-3-[(E)-phenyldiazenyl]butan-2-one (42) was used. Methyl 2-(2-arylhydrazino)-2-methylpropanoate (39) reacting with a bulky Grignard reagent like isopropyl magnesium bromide gives 4,4-dimethyl-2-phenyl-l,2-diazeti-din-3-one 40 (87TL6577). Oxidation with ferf-butyl hypochlorite converts diazetidinone 40 into 2-methyl-2-(phenyldiazenyl)propanoyl chloride 41, which upon treatment with diazomethane affords the desired diazo ketone 42 (Scheme 8) (98ACE2229). [Pg.196]

Preparation and Stability. Since A -unsubstituted oxazo-lidines are labile to hydrolysis, they should be transformed immediately after preparation to amide derivatives, which show much higher stability. Thus reaction of (S)-3-amino-2-methyl-4-phenyl-2-butanol with acetone in the presence of a catalytic amount of p-Toluenesulfonic Acid produces (S)-4-benzyl-2,2,5,5-tetramethyloxazolidine. A -Acylation using acryloyl, cinnamoyl, and propanoyl chloride (Et3N, —78°C) gives the corresponding amides. The 7V-crotonoyl derivative is better obtained by the crotonoylation of (S)-3-amino-2-methyl-4-phenyl-2-butanol followed by acetalization with (Me)2C(OMe)2. [Pg.74]

Ans. (a) 2-Methylpropanoic acid, (b) butanone or ethyl methyl ketone, (c) benzoic anhydride, (e) 1-methoxypropanone or methoxyacetone, (/) methyl propanoate, (g) hydroxymethyl phenyl ketone, (A) phenylacetic acid, and (/) propanoyl chloride. [Pg.313]

The formation of a trinicotinate was reported.2409 The best method of preparing this starch derivative involved reacting nicotinoyl chloride hydrochloride and starch in boiling pyridine.2410 Starch isonicotinates and 4-(sulfinylamino)benzoates were subsequently prepared. Starch isonicotinate was further cationized by treating it in nitromethane solution with methyl 2-(chloroacetyl)lactate or benzoylhydrazide A-chloroacetate and l-[2-(chloroacetoxy)propanoyl]-3-methylpyrazole.2411... [Pg.272]
