2- propanol isopropyl alcohol

Ethyl acetate 147 C4HsOj 2-Propanol Isopropyl alcohol 87 C,HsO... [Pg.100]

The mechanisms of these reactions have much in common and have been studied extensively from this point of view. They also have very considerable synthetic utility. The addition of water to alkenes (hydration) is particularly important for the preparation of a number of commercially important alcohols. Thus ethanol and 2-propanol (isopropyl alcohol) are made on a very large scale by the hydration of the corresponding alkenes (ethene and propene) using sulfuric or phosphoric acids as catalysts. The nature of this type of reaction will be described later. [Pg.361]

Note Polar solvent soluble in water, alcohols, ethers, many hydrocarbons, and oils flammable and moderately toxic by ingestion, inhalation, and skin absorption incompatible with strong oxidizers. Synonyms dimethyl carbinol, sec-propyl alcohol, 2-propanol, isopropyl alcohol. [Pg.351]

Propanol (isopropyl alcohol) 83 Solvent for shellac essential oils body rubs... [Pg.155]

Propan-2-ol (2-propanol, isopropyl alcohol) is made by the catalytic hydration of propylene. Isopropyl alcohol is commonly used as rubbing alcohol (rather than ethanol) because it has less of a drying effect on the skin, and it is not regulated and... [Pg.434]

Ethyl acetate 147 C4H8O2 2-Propanol Isopropyl alcohol 87 CjHsO... [Pg.97]

The alcohol forms a constant-boiling mixture with water (hat contains 91% v/v of 2-propanol. Isopropyl alcohol is used primarily us a disinfectant for the skin and for surgical instruments. The alcohol is rapidly baciericitlal in the concentration range of 50 to 95%. A 407p eoneentration is considered equal in antiseptic efficacy to a 60% ethanol in water solution. Azeotropic isopropyl alcohol, USP, is u.scd on gauze pads for sterilization of the skin prior to hypodermic injections. Isopropyl alcohol is also used in pharmaceuticals and toiletries us a. solvent and preservative. [Pg.220]
