Propane-1,2,3-triamine

Bernhardt et al. have predicted the isomer distribution of meso- and rac-[Co(trap)2l + (trap = propane-1,2,3-triamine) and [M(dipa)2] + (dipa = di-2-pyridylmethanamine) [M = Fe(III), Fe(II), Co(III), Ni(II), and Cu(II)] via molecular mechanics calculations.In each of the [M(dipa)2] complexes the rac isomer was favored owing to steric effects. Experimental verification was possible only for [Co(dipa)2] +. This was not the case, however, for [Co(trap)2] +, for which an equal distribution was predicted and verified experimentally. 

Silver(I) complexes with polyamines also form molecular aggregates, thus hexamethylenetetramine yields 2D and 3D coordination networks,613 polymeric chains are obtained with diethylene-triamine, tris(2-aminoethyl)amine, or A,A -bis(aminoethyl)propane-l,3-diamine,426 and 2D networks are formed with thiocyanate and bridging polyamines.61... 

Aqueous zinc nitrate similarly treated gave the colorless crystalline bis (triaminopropane) zinc di-iodide (X) (20). An aqueous solution of sodium tetrachloroplatinate(II), Na2[PtCl4], when treated with two equivalents of the triamine, heated until clear, and then concentrated and added to aqueous sodium bromide and iodide gave the colorless bis(triamino-propane)-platinum(II) dibromide (XI X = Br), m.p. 270-271°C., and the di-iodide (XI X = I), m.p. 266-267°C., respectively. The fact that in these salts (which were sufficiently stable for recrystallization from hot water) the divalent platinum was showing the exceptional coordination number of 6—i.e., that it was coordinated to all six amino groups of the two triamine molecules, was shown by the addition of the dibromide to an excess of sodium picrate, both in cold aqueous solution, whereby only the dipicrate (XI X = C6H2N3O7) was precipitated had any amino groups remained uncoordinated, they also would have formed picrates (1928) (19). 

The [Co(tame)2]3 and [Pt(tame)2]bis-triaminates underwent a template condensation with propanal under basic conditions to give with remarkable regio- and stereo-selectivities rigid sarcophaginates with an expanded cavity [154].

More flexible, tougher products can be obtained by using liquid diamines or polyamines having more flexible backbones. For example, Jeflamine T.403 (Texaco Chemical) is a low-viscosity liquid (70 mPa s) having a molecular weight of about 440 and an amine equivalent weight of about 145. It is a poly-(propylene oxide) triamine made from the polyether initiated by trimethylol propane, and is promoted as a flexible cross-linker for epoxy systems.
