A. General description Prolastin is prepared from pooled human plasma of normal donors it has a molecular weight of 52kDa. To reduce the potential risk of transmission of infectious agents, Prolastin has been heat-treated in solution at 60 + 0.5°C for not less than 10 hours. However, no procedure has been found to be totally effective in removing viral infectivity from plasma fractionation products. [Pg.334]

Dosage form Prolastin is supplied in single-use vials with the total alphai-proteinase inhibitor functional activity, in milligrams, 500 or 1000, stated on the label of each vial. A suitable volume of sterile water for injection is provided. When the product is reconstituted it contains Prolastin 25mg/ml. [Pg.334]

Route of administration Prolastin must be administered by the intravenous route. [Pg.334]

Advice for treatment decisions based on specific genetic conditions were found in four Pis, namely that prolastin (a 1-proteinase inhibitor) is not indicated in patients with certain otl -antitrypsin deficiency phenotypes, trastuzumab indicated only in patients with overexpression of the HER2 protein, tretinoin, and imatinib are to be given only in patients with either a specific subtype of acute myelogenous leukemia or Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia, respectively. [Pg.259]

The recommended dosing regimen for replacement AAT is 60 mg/kg administered intravenously ouce a week at a rate of 0.08 mL/kg per miuute, adjusted to patieut tolerauce. It has beeu estimated that this form of augmeutatiou therapy will have au auuual cost of 20,000 to 30,000 per patieut. There have beeu repeated problems with supply of this biologic replacement therapy (derived from pooled blood donors) related to production difficulty aud contamina-tiou issues. Currently, there are three products available (Prolastin, Aralast, and Zemaira), which should minimize this problem in the future. [Pg.550]
