Progress, linear

In Figure 3B the process of the flow-type reactor is presented. Here the abscissa represents the progressive linear distance of traversal through the reactor, x. At first contact a = 0, the initial composition /(co) meets a parcel of catalyst, is converted to /(cj), contacts another similar— although now not the identical—parcel of catalyst, and so forth, until at X = Xf the composition leaves the reactor as /(c/). A comparison of the physical pictures as presented by Figure 3A and Figure 3B leads to the obvious conclusion that the formal description of the progress of the reaction in terms of reactant and product concentration will be similar... 

The auger pitch can be either progressive, linear or degressive As the angle of pitch varies with the distance from the hub, differentiaton has to be made between the inner, the middle and the outer pitch angle. 

The first technique is the so-called unidimensional formulation scan, in which a series of test tubes contain the same composition, i.e., the same amphiphile/oil/water proportions, but gradually changing formulation. For instance, the salinity of the aqueous phase is changed from one test tube to the next according to some progression (linear or geometric). It also could be the oil ACN or the surfactant tail length. 

In a study published in 1975, Chamley and Halley (1978) calculated the wear rate for the 72 patients with 9 to 10 years of follow-up by analyzing the serial radiographs. Chamley and Halley found that after an initial bedding-in period during the first several years, the rate of wear progressed linearly with time, as shown in Figure 5.7. 

Metallographic examination revealed limited intergranular corrosion at the casting surface. The measured maximum depth of penetration was 100 p,m after 300 hours of testing. Intergranular corrosion usually progresses linearly with time and, therefore, a maximum depth of penetration of only 0.5 mm is expected after a service life of the car engine equivalent to 160,000 km. 

Our investigations considered, in hne with an ENEA report [24], uniform inlet gas pressure profiles, progressively linearly decreasing profiles, and progressively linearly increasing profiles combined to build eight non-uniform inlet flow patterns.
