Program efficacy

Our measure of program efficacy compares the differences in racial composition of FTIC students at each level during a school year. For example, if women make up 50 % of lower-level undergraduates emoUed at a university in 2000-2001 as well as 55% of upper-level undergraduates, the retention ratio is 55%/50 % or 1.10. This measure simply indicates the gender composition of upper-level students comprises a cohort of 10% more women in comparison to the lower-level composition. If women make up 60% of degree recipients compared to 55% of upper-level undergraduates, the persistence ratio is 60%/55 % or 1.09. [Pg.26]
