Colson s (private communication) description of a many-parameter nonlinear least squares calculation as comparable to the problem of finding the lowest point in the north American continent, given a horse and a barometer. The difficulty of multiminima in force-constant refinement calculations becomes more acute in ill-conditioned calculations, in which the data are only barely sufficient to determine the force field in well-conditioned calculations it is less of a problem. 

Robinson (1967) has used the Unsold approximation for the energy levels to express the polarizabilities in terms of the electrostatic moments of the ground-state electron distribution. The expressions have been applied to X-ray charge densities by Zyss, Baert, and coworkers (Fkyerat et al. 1995 F. Hamzaoui, F. Baert and J. Zyss, private communication). A detailed description of the derivation and the approximations involved is beyond the scope of this treatise. However, it should be mentioned that the severe approximations are made that all excited-state energy levels are equal, and that the exciting light frequency is equal to zero.

The most common example of the resonance theory is the description of the benzene structure. The experimentally precisely determined and accurately known carbon-carbon bond length is consistent with the model as average of the resonance structures. When Pauling s resonance description of the benzene structure was criticized, the physicist Edward Teller and his colleagues provided spectroscopic evidence to support it [40]. The Nobel laureate physicist Philip Anderson was oblivious of Teller s and his co-workers paper (Private communication from Philip Anderson to the author by e-mail in 2009), and 68 years after Teller s contribution, in 2008, Anderson communicated another supportive paper for Pauling s model [41].

Two additional projects, being developed with private funding for specific market applications, are appropriate to consider as representatives of future directions and trends. These two projects are the LFR-AS-200 project being developed by Hydromine, Inc., and the Swedish Advanced Lead Reactor (SEALER) reactor project being developed by LeadCold Reactors Inc. The descriptions below are based on private communications for these ongoing development efforts and are intended to illustrate the continuing process of innovation that is characteristic of current and future trends in LFR technology. 

Synthesis of cBN by a low-pressure method was claimed by Vickery in 1959 without any detailed description of his experiment or analysis (267). Around 1980, Sokolowsld et al. (268,269) and Weissmantel et al. (47,264,270) reported the synthesis of cBN (or iBN) and showed electron diffraction patterns of the material so produced. Since then, confirmation of cBN synthesis have been attempted by many researchers. Efforts to increase the cBN yield have also been made. Nevertheless, clear identification of cBN formation has not been made because of the smallness of BN grains and difficulty in distinguishing cBN from hBN, tBN, pBN, or even from surrounding materials by IR (271,272) and diffraction methods (273-275) (Y. Matsui, private communication). Combined analyses of the structure, the composition, and the atomic bonding of the films produced by IR, diffraction, and electron spectroscopy etc. could improve the situation. 

What comes to mind when the word pharmacy is mentioned Depending on your age, hometown size and location, personal health history, and experiences shared by family and friends, a number of examples might appear. While the descriptions would vary regarding the name and even the practice setting, many would envision a privately owned business that not only filled prescriptions but also took care of patients and their families. This type of pharmacy has been described in many ways a mom and pop shop, a drug store, a chemist s shop, an apothecary, a prescription shop, or hundreds of brand names ranging from Abe s Drug to Zimmerman s Pharmacy. The business that is described by most is an independent community pharmacy. 

The Vita dementis also provides a possible solution to the puzzle of why Byzantine sources so often describe independent xenones and xen-odocheia, but rarely mention independent orphanages. Early Christian texts frequently stressed that bishops were responsible for orphan care. The third-century Didascalia Apostolorum implied that such care ranked first among the philanthropic duties of the bishop and his community. When a private person such as Sophia estabUshed an orphanage and provided it with an endowment, the local bishop soon assumed responsibility over the institution, especially since the bishop and the episcopal church could use the services of the older orphans as acolytes, lectors, or singers in a children s choir. The fifth-century Vita Sancti Euthymii has preserved a detailed description of such an episcopal school for boys including orphans.
