Preparations for Chromatography

As scientists strive for ever lower detection limits, sample preparation techniques must inevitably continue to improve. Some future directions in sample preparation for chromatography can be delineated as follows ... [Pg.54]

Generally SFE has proved a greater success than SFC. However, the need for successful automation is a significant restriction in many routine applications. SFE has been promoted as the ideal technique for sample preparation for chromatography. Meanwhile it is clear that this is far too optimistic [77,292]. As shown in Section 3.4.2.7, SFE does not guarantee quantitative analysis. Before any technique can be fully accepted, it should be capable of generating reproducible results. This is clearly not the case in SFE. Also, sample sizes of (on-line) SFE tend to be much smaller than in other methods, such as MAE or ASE (Table 3.4), which raises the risk of nonrepresentative sampling. There is a need for SFE to be carried out on reference materials of known composition determined by an alternative technique. [Pg.89]

Dialysis has been applied to the preparation of a wide range of sample types, ranging from foodstuffs to physiological fluids. Membrane-based sample preparations for chromatography have been reviewed by Van de Merbel et al.60 In ordinary dialysis, solutes are transferred from a concentrated to a more dilute solution as a consequence of the concentration gradient. [Pg.110]

The C-22 firebricks sold by Johns-Mansfield are particularly suitable for this purpose. Crushed and screened firebrick prepared for chromatography may be purchased from a number of sources, such as Wilkins Instrument and Research, Inc., Walnut Creek, Calif. [Pg.167]

The standard methods that one would use in sample preparation for chromatography include filtration, sedimentation, centrifugation, liquid-liquid extraction (LEE) open-column chromatography, and concentration/evaporation. Filtration for sample preparation may be performed on numerous occasions in a sample preparation protocol, with the first filtration being used to separate large-particulate matter from solvent. [Pg.1391]

Coloured and UV-absorbing derivatives are prepared for chromatography to improve the detectivity of compounds which do not possess a chromophore or fluorophore. [Pg.157]

In preparation for chromatography in the horizontal developing chamber the samples are applied parallel to both opposing edges of the plate, which is then developed from both sides towards the middle. This way the number of samples per plate can be doubled. As can be seen from Fig. 7, development is possible in all configurations including conditioning at a desired relative humidity, which is established with the appropriate sulfuric acid-water mixture filled in the tray. [Pg.138]
