The fluoroquinolones are contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the fluoroquinolones, in children younger than 18 years, and in pregnant women (Pregnancy Category C). These drugs also are contraindicated in patients whose life-styles do not allow for adherence to the precautions regarding photosensitivity. [Pg.93]

Contraindications, Precautions, and Interactions—of the most commonly used dru in the category under discussion. While space prevents every contraindication, precaution, and interaction to be listed, the more common ones are included in the text. Pregnancy categories are identified for many drugs discussed within the chapter. [Pg.686]

Clinical Particulars (therapeutic indications, administration, contraindications, special warnings and precautions, interaction with other drugs, use in pregnancy or lactation, effects on driving, undesirable effects, overdose)... [Pg.112]

Like ACE inhibitors, ARBs may cause kidney insufficiency, hyperkalemia, and orthostatic hypotention. The same precautions that apply to ACE inhibitors for patients with suspected bilateral renal artery stenosis, those on drugs that can raise the potassium level, and those on drugs that increase the risk of hypotension apply to ARBs. Cough is very uncommon. Angioedema is also less likely to occur than with ACE inhibitors, but cross-reactivity has been reported. ARBs should be used cautiously in patients with a history of angioedema but, unlike ACE inhibitors, are not contraindicated. ARBs should not be used in pregnancy. [Pg.207]
