Prednisolone Rifampicin

Clinically important, potentially hazardous interactions with aprepitant, astemizole, carbamazepine, colchicine, cyclosporine, dihydroergotamine, ergot alkaloids, ergotamine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, methylprednisolone, methysergide, oral contraceptives, paroxetine, pimozide, prednisolone, rifampicin, sertraline, solifenacin, terfenadine, warfarin... 

Rifampicin enhances the catabolism of many glucocorticoids. For example, it increases the plasma clearance of prednisolone by 45 % and may reduce the amount of drug available to the tissues by as much as 66% (SEDA-8,288). Glucocorticoid therapy for concomitant diseases should therefore be adjusted in the light of plasma concentrations and clinical effects during rifampicin treatment (SEDA-10,272). For example, rejection of a kidney transplant occurred after 7 weeks of rifampicin therapy (109).

An improvement of medical devices based on bacterial polymers by the encapsulation of different drugs, opens up the wide prospects in applications for these new devices with pharmacological activity in medicine. PHB polymer was used as a drug delivery matrix for sustaining the release of various drugs such as dipyridamole [DP], indomethacin and antibiotics (rifampicin, metronidazole, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), anti-inflammatory drugs (flurbiprofen, dexamethasone, prednisolone), and antitumor drugs (paclitaxel) [132]. 

Another suggested alternative is to replace the ciclosporin with another non-interacting immunosuppressant, such as azathioprine and low-dose prednisolone for immunosuppression, if rifampicin is needed."... 

The effects of systemic cortisone, dexamethasone, fludrocortisone, hydrocortisone, methylprednisolone, prednisone and prednisolone can be markedly reduced by rifampicin, but aldosterone appears not to be affected. Rifabutin and rifapentine are predicted to interact similarly, all be it to a lesser extent.
