Power regeneration

Conventional back-drive systems on decanters perform a braking duty. As such many of them have the ability to regenerate power. Although an eddy current brake is unable to do this. AC. DC. and inverter motors, and hydraulic systems are. The braking process causes the electric motor to act as a generator and so returns power to the grid. In the case of the DC and inverter motor, the power regenerated is usually considered dirty unless electric filters are fitted which smooth out unwanted harmonics. [Pg.115]

A better, though more expensive, approach is to fit DC or inverter drives to both main drive and back-drive and use for both a common DC bus. The power regeneration is then simple and clean, and the main motor then draws from [Pg.115]

In 2006, astronomers reclassified Pluto as a dwarf planet. This may make a difference to astrophysicists (though I can t see why it should). Astrologers essentially don t care. In our interpretation of the universe, Pluto is associated with power, regeneration, and the underworld of the psyche — a place where alchemy is the operative metaphor and size is deeply, truly meaningless. Plutonian transits, which last for two or three years, coincide with periods of profound change. [Pg.249]

Remoistenable adhesives are water-based compositions that dry to a non-tacky film that may have its adhesive power regenerated by the absorption of water. Envelope gums are a familiar example. [Pg.29]

Mechanical improvements include the ability to profile the protective tiles on the conveyor face, to use better bearings, and to use three-stage planetary gearboxes. Improved machine driving mechanisms include inverter drives, and the use of back-drives with power regeneration. [Pg.9]

The main motor controller is a separate controller, and depends upon the type of installation and motor. The motor could be AC, DC or inverter type. Rarely, it could be a hydraulic motor. The starter could be DOL (direct-online), particularly if a fluid coupling is fitted, it could be a soft-start inverter system, or a DC system. With an Inverter system the back-drive, also an inverter type, could be connected through the DC bus to allow power regeneration. The starter Itself could be actuated by a separate master system. Undoubtedly there will be interlocks with the starter, to cause it to de-energise with certain scenarios. [Pg.325]

Taking into account that the huge amount of exhaust emitted by ICE vehicles contain cracked light hydrocarbons, Yano et al. (2008) propose using the exhaust for power regeneration in SOFCs. They installed a 50 x 40 x 124 mm SC-SOFC... [Pg.318]

A process development known as NOXSO (DuPont) (165,166) uses sodium to purify power plant combustion flue gas for removal of nitrogen oxide, NO, and sulfur, SO compounds. This technology reHes on sodium metal generated in situ via thermal reduction of sodium compound-coated media contained within a flue-gas purification device, and subsequent flue-gas component reactions with sodium. The process also includes downstream separation and regeneration of spent media for recoating and circulation back to the gas purification device. A full-scale commercial demonstration project was under constmction in 1995. [Pg.169]

In the modern unit design, the main vessel elevations and catalyst transfer lines are typically set to achieve optimum pressure differentials because the process favors high regenerator pressure, to enhance power recovery from the flue gas and coke-burning kinetics, and low reactor pressure to enhance product yields and selectivities. [Pg.216]

The expansion turbine converts the dynamic energy of the flue gas into mechanical energy. The recoverable energy is determined by the pressure drop through the expander, the expander inlet temperature, and the mass flow of gas (66). This power is then typically used to drive the regenerator air blower. [Pg.219]

Figure 27-43 shows the amount of energy available for power by using a fire-tube boiler, an industrial bofler, and subcridcal- and supercritical-pressure boilers. Condensing losses decrease substantially, and regeneration of air and feedwater becomes increasingly important in the most advanced central-station boilers. [Pg.2398]

What happens if the expander were operating at peak power so that the exeess power supplied to the generator is represented by line B1 Assume afterburning oeeurs to eause a temperature rise. In the events that follow, there will be variations deteetable in the blower horsepower requirements, but they will be small eompared to the others that oeeur. If the unit was in lined-out operation before the afterburning oeeurred, the operators will be reluetant to disturb the regenerator-reaetor balanee. [Pg.169]
