Postgraduate studies

Some 20 years ago, I was privileged to share in writing a book on the descriptive chemistry of the 4d, 5d, 4f and 5f metals that included these eight elements within its compass (S.A. Cotton and F.A. Hart, The Heavy Transition Elements, Macmillan, 1975). This volume shares the same aim of covering the descriptive chemistry of silver, gold and the six platinum metals in some detail at a level suitable for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate study. 

Woodward then moved across town in Cambridge to devote a year of postgraduate study at Harvard University. At the end of that year, he accepted an appointment to the Harvard chemistry faculty, a post he held for most of the rest of his life. One of his great interests at Harvard was the synthesis of large, complex molecules, the first of which was quinine in 1944. He followed that work with the elucidation of other molecular structures and the development of synthetic methods for each. Included among these molecules were penicillin (1945), patulin (1948), cholesterol and cortisone (1951), oxytetracycline (1952), strychnine (1954), lysergic acid (1954), reserpine (1956), chlorophyll (1960), colchicine (1963), cephalosporin C (1965), and vitamin (1971).

Mexico granted pharmaceutical medicine speciality status in 1999. There is a 2-year specialist training programme organized by the National Polytechnic Institute, Faculty of Medicine, Postgraduate Studies Section, leading to a specialist... 

He completed his postgraduate studies from Indian Board of Alternative Medicines, Calcutta. After completion of studies, he joined the Navjivan Pharma, Panchkula specializing in Herbal medicines. He was involved in clinical trials against Psoriasis, Leucoderma Diabetes mellitus with herbal extracts in the Ayurvedic Wing of Sohana Eye Institute, Mohali. 

This book has been written for university students studying analytical chemistry, applied chemistry, forensic chemistry, or other such courses where there is an element of HPLC within the course cmriculum. Ihe aim of the book is to explain HPLC from a forensic science perspective, and many of the examples used here are associated with real-life samples that might be expected within a forensic science laboratory. We have tried to maintain a balance between practical solutions and the theoretical considerations involved in HPLC analysis. The book takes the reader on a journey through the world of HPLC it is suitable for first-time users as well as those pursuing postgraduate study or in the early stages of their forensic analysis careers. 

Hahn found the university s physicists more congenial than its chemists and regularly attended the physics colloquia. At one colloquium at the begiiming of the autumn term in 1907 he met an Austrian woman, Lise Meitner, who had just arrived from Vienna. Meitner was twenty-nine, one year older than Hahn. She had earned her Ph.D. at the University of Vieima and had already published two papers on alpha and beta radiation. Max Planck s lectures in theoretical physics had drawn her to Berlin for postgraduate study. 

Abraham StreifFwas bom in the former Dutch Indies, todays Indonesia. He graduated in 1901 from the Technological Institute, Delft NL, taking then postgraduate studies at the Swiss Federal Institute, ETH Zurich, serving as hydraulic engineering assistant.
