Polyvinylidene fluoride plastic PVDF

The family of FPs, also called fluorocarbon plastics, is based on polymers made of monomers composed of fluorine and carbon may also include chlorine atoms in their structure. Specific types include polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polytetrafluoroethylene-cohexafluoro-propylene or fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), polytrafluoroethylene-coperfluoropropylvinyl ether (PFA), ethylenetetrafluoroethylene (ETFE). polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE), ethylene-chlorotri-fluoroethylene (ECTFE), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyvinyl fluoride (PVF), perfluoromethylvinylether (PFMV), perfluoroalkoxy (PFA), etc. [Pg.73]

Today the pipe applications of PVC, PE and PP have become a major consideration in the global consumption of polymeric materials. By comparison, other polymers that were market contenders for pipe products developed little and now consume small tonnages in what may be regarded as specialist applications. Nevertheless piping may still constitute an important market for these other plastics in relation to their total consumption. For instance extrusion of pipe is significant in the markets for polybutadiene (PB), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). [Pg.16]

Inside aircraft the fire, smoke and toxicity performance of PAEK is often their key advantage versus other plastics. PAEK produce relatively little smoke and toxic gas in fire situations and they are used extensively in cabin structures. Polyaryletherketoneketone (PEKK) (often laminated with Tedlar) is used to make thermoformed cabin interior panels. Amorphous PEKK has the advantage of being thermoformable at relatively low temperatures which are compatible with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and the various adhesives used in the laminate. Partially fluorinated fiuoropolymers with commercial significance include ethylene-tetrafiuoroethylene copolymer (ETFE), ethylene-chlorotrifiuoroethylene copolymer (ECTFE), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and polyvinyl fluoride (PVF). The presence of hydrogen in these plastics lowers the fluorine content compared to perfiuoropolymers, and renders them susceptible to some chemicals. This means that care must be taken in the selection of these polymers to insure compatibility of process fluids. [Pg.344]
